3-Day Kibale Forest Safari Experience
per person
The 3-Day Kibale Forest Safari Experience takes you to the “primate capital of the world,” Kibale National Park in southern Uganda, a prime location for chimpanzee trekking and other primate species. The park covers 795 square kilometers and consists mainly of tropical rainforest and Savannah grasslands. The park has over 1,500 chimpanzees, 12 primates, and other various wildlife species, including 60 mammals, 375 bird species, and 351 tree species, some with over 200 years old. Kibale Forest is known for its diversity, featuring forest elephants, leopards, forest hogs, lions, warthogs, hippos, and others. While it excels in chimpanzee tracking, the absence of mountain gorillas keeps it from being one of Africa’s most visited parks.
This tour offers a chimpanzee habituation experience where you can track wild chimps with researchers. This activity is more detailed than the standard chimpanzee trekking, allowing you to see more wildlife species. If you select the habituation activity in Kibale Forest, you will follow the chimps all day, starting early to meet them as they leave their nests. You will observe the chimps as they feed, interact, and build their nests for the night.
The cost for chimpanzee permits is $250 for non-foreign residents, $200 for foreign residents, and UGX 180,000 for East African Citizens. More still, the cost for chimpanzee habituation permits is $300 for non-foreign residents, $250 for foreign residents, and UGX 250,000, respectively. Note that these costs only cover trekking permits, and travelers should also consider accommodation, transport, and flights. The tour package price is all-inclusive but does not cover flights, visas, insurance or personal expenses.
