The 4-day Murchison Falls Birding Tour will take you to explore Uganda’s unique birdlife through game drives, nature walks, and launch tours along the Nile River. The park is home to over 450 bird species, including forest, savannah, water, and migratory birds. Common large birds you might see include marabou storks, ground hornbills, secretary birds, hornbills, bishops, and various weavers, among others.
Near the riverine woodlands, expect to see several bird species such as bee-eaters such as Red-throated, Black Bee-eater, Swallow-tailed Bee-eaters, Kingfishers, Herons, Doves, and Woodpeckers. This area also has Ducks, Geese, Stilts, and Plovers, among others.

DAY 1: Birding from Kampala to Masindi via Mabamba Wetland
You will start with an early transfer to Mabamba Swamp, located 50 kilometers west of Kampala. On the way, keep an eye out for various birds like the Papyrus Gonolek, White Shouldered Tit, and Western Banded Snake Eagle. Mabamba Swamp is known for the rare Shoebill Stork and also hosts many other species, such as Allen’s and Purple Gallinule, Grey herons, and the Pallid Harrier. Afterward, you will drive back to Kampala and then transfer to Masindi through the Luwero triangle, watching for the White-crested bird, White Shouldered Tit, Grey-capped Warbler, Dark-chanting Goshawk, White Headed Barbet Brown Throated Wattle Eye, Broad-billed Roller, and others.

DAY 2: Birding Budongo-Royal Mile and Transfer to Northern Murchison
After your early morning breakfast, leave early for the Budongo Forest to enjoy birding along the Royal Mile, a beautiful road with tall trees. There are many trails in the forest where you might see birds like Nahan’s Francolin, Blue-throated Roller, White-thighed Hornbill, Uganda Woodland Warbler, and Cassin’s Spinetail, among others. Keep an eye out for various types of barbets, hornbills, turaco, cuckoo, and greenbul. Also, look for Blue, Red Tailed, and Colobus monkeys. You may even spot chimps crossing the trail on fortunate days.

DAY 3: Birding Northern Muchison Falls National Park
The visit will feature boat trips to the base of the falls and a game drive to the delta, where there is a chance to see the Shoebill Stork. Various birds, including the Red-throated and Northern Carmine Bee-eater, as well as mammals like Rothschild’s Giraffe, Cape Buffalo, and Elephant, will be observed. Other birds to look for include the Saddle-billed Stork, African Open-billed Stork, and many types of Kingfishers. On the game drive, we will also search for Heuglin’s Francolins and several species of doves. A night drive is recommended to see nocturnal animals and birds.
Day 4: Departure- Birding to Kampala
Rise up early, have your breakfast, and on your way to Kampala, you will head up to the top of the falls to have a glimpse of the world’s most powerful water falls. Continue with your journey to Kampala as you search for some species that you might have missed out previously, and as you explore more secret birding spots.
