Morning: Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, our safari driver will pick you up from your accommodation to go to Nyungwe Forest National Park in southwestern Rwanda. Upon arrival, you will meet a birding guide who will explain the day’s activities and the birds you will see. You will start your birding adventure in the park’s montane forests, looking for birds like the Rwenzori Turaco and Red-collared Mountain Babbler. Your guide will help you learn about the birds’ calls and behaviors. After a morning of birding, you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch and relax in the beautiful forest surroundings.
Midday: Lunch and Relaxation
Afternoon: Canopy Walk and Lake Kivu
In the afternoon, we will go on an exciting canopy walk on the Nyungwe Canopy Walkway. This will give us a special view of the forest and a chance to see birds that live in the trees, such as the Great Blue Turaco, Hornbills, Olive Pigeon, and different sunbirds. We will enjoy amazing views of the treetops and the surrounding landscapes. After the canopy walk, we will head to Lake Kivu, a beautiful lake known for its scenery and birdlife. We will take a relaxing boat trip to see waterbirds like herons, African fish eagles, cormorants, and maybe even the rare shoebill stork. As the day ends, we’ll return with great birding memories and a better understanding of Rwanda’s rich birdlife. The bird species we see might change based on the season and conditions.
