This 3-day hiking safari in Nyungwe Forest National Park will take you to explore the pristine beauty and impressive experience due to its unique natural attractions. This natural forest is located in the western part of Rwanda, bordering Lake Kivu, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. During this hiking safari in Nyungwe Forest, you will explore the unique adventure experience of the canopy walk, Rukuzi Trail, and also have a scenic visit to the Isumo water falls. After this experience, you will then transfer to the King’s palace in Nyanza and the country’s museum in Butare.

Day 1: Pickup from Kigali & Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Wake up early, have your breakfast, and then you will be picked up by our company representative from Four Hotel or a resident in Kigali. After head for 5–6-hour drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Expect to have a stop over route at the king’s Palace in Nyanza, the National Museum in Butare, and after you will get your lunch as well. You will arrive during evening hours and connect to your accommodation, relax, and spend your evening at leisure. Have dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Enjoy breakfast and attend a briefing at the park headquarters led by the head ranger guide. After that, you will begin a guided hike on the Rukuzi Trail, which is one of the 19 trails in Nyungwe Forest National Park. This challenging hike lasts about 5 hours and offers rewarding views of the park and Lake Kivu in the distance, as well as volcanoes on clear days. Be sure to bring your packed lunch. After lunch, you walk to the Canopy Walk, a 60-meter swing bridge among the trees, providing a bird’s-eye view of the rainforest and wildlife. This walk takes 1-2 hours. Return to the lodge for dinner before nightfall.

Have breakfast early and then drive to the park for a guided nature walk to the Isumo waterfalls. This hike takes 4 hours round-trip, allowing you to see various wildlife and birds. After the hike, enjoy lunch and then transfer to Kigali, where your driver will take you to your chosen hotel or the airport for your return flight. If you can’t do a city tour on your first day, consider a short tour of Kigali.
