This 6-day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking and Cultural Safari offers a full gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes National Park, a hike to the Dian Fossey Grave, and exploration of Rwandan culture. An optional visit to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi is also included. The tour starts and ends in Kigali City.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali, City Tour & Transfer to your booked hotel
Upon arriving at Kigali international airport, our tour guide will greet you and brief you with the highlights of your 6 Days Rwanda gorillas and cultural tour. You will then tour Kigali city, learning about its cultural aspects, visiting local craftsman shops for souvenirs, and exploring the Kemironko market. After lunch, you will stay at a hotel before a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park the following day.

Day 2: Visit Gisozi Genocide Center, Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
On the 6-day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking and Cultural Safari, you will start your day by leaving Kigali after breakfast. You will visit the Gisozi genocide memorial site to learn about the 1994 genocide. You can also choose to go to the national museum or have lunch before heading to Volcanoes National Park to see endangered mountain gorillas in the late afternoon. After checking in at your hotel, you’ll visit Iby’wachu Cultural Village to learn about Banyarwanda culture before having dinner and spending the night at your hotel.

Day 3: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Wake up early, have breakfast, and go to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing from the senior park rangers. Your assigned lead guide will then take you on hiking trails for the adventure. When you meet the gorillas, you can spend 1 hour observing them and taking photographs without using a flashlight. After the trek, return to your hotel to relax. In the evening, you can choose to go for a cultural walk with the Banyarwanda community or a nature walk to the lakes and caves.

Day 4: Dian Fossey Hike and transfer to Lake Kivu
After breakfast, consider hiking to the Dian Fossey graves at the Karisoke research center to learn about her work in gorilla conservation. After that, enjoy lunch at the lodge, then head to Lake Kivu for leisure activities like swimming, coffee tours, and boat kayaking.

Day 5: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Wake up in the morning and have a tasty breakfast. Transfer to Nyungwe with stops for photography and lunch. Arrive at the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe, Depart to Kigali
After breakfast, you will transfer to Nyungwe Forest Park headquarters for a briefing by park rangers. Then, you will hike in search of chimpanzees, which may take 1-3 hours. Afterward, you will return to Kigali, visiting the King’s Palace, Butare Museums, and Murambi Genocide Memorial Site. This marks the last day of the Rwanda tour. Safe travels home!
