This 11-day Rwenzori hiking and gorilla trekking Adventure (central circuit without Margherita) takes you to one of Africa’s spectacular and snow-capped mountains of Rwenzori, Queen Elizabeth National Park for wildlife adventure, especially to see members of the big five mammals, and later to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas.

  • Day 1: Drive from Kampala to the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains National Park

    After breakfast, depart for Rwenzori Mountains National Park going through the breathtaking views of the countryside along Mubende, Fort-portal, and Kasese to the mountain foothills. Enjoy an en route lunch in Fort Portal and an overnight stay at Ruboni Community Camp.

  • Day 2: Nyakalengija (1,615m) to Nyabitaba Hut (2.651m)

    Climbing Rwenzori along the Central circuit trail starts with a briefing. Then, you will hike for 5 hours from 1615 meters at Nyakalengijo to 2651 meters at Nyabitaba Hut, passing through farmland and along the Mubuku River via its tributary of Muhoma. This hike includes a steep ascent to reach the hut (Nyabitaba Hut), where you will have dinner and spend the night.

  • Day 3: Hike Nyabitaba to John Matte Hut (3,50m)

    This is a 7-hour hike from Nyabitaba Hut (2651m) to the scenic John Matte Hut (3505m). You will hike across Kurt Shafer Bridge at Bujuku River and have lunch at Nyamileju Hut. After lunch, continue hiking for about 2 hours to reach the top point at John Matte Hut for dinner and an overnight stay.

  • Day 5: Bujuku Hut to Kitandara Hut (4,023m)

    After your breakfast, embark on the day’s morning hike from Bujuku camp and hike towards a steep rock slope to Scott Elliot at 4372 meters. you will enjoy the spectacular views of the Bujuku valley and the exciting peaks of Mount Baker and Mount Stanley. End the hike at Kitandara Hut by Lake Kitandara for dinner and overnight.

  • Day 6: Kitandara Hut to Guy Yeomen Hut (3,505m)

    After your breakfast, begin your hike on another challenging trek straight from Kitandara Hut to Guy Yeoman Hut (3505m). This hike takes about 5 hours to reach the Fresh Field Path (4282m), featuring the beautiful falls at Kabumba cave. You will spend the night at Guy Yeoman Hut, with great views of Mount Baker.

  • Day 7: Guy Yeoman back to Nyakalengija-Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

    This is a 4-hour hike from Guy Yeomen to Nyabitaba Hut, passing Kichuchu and crossing the Mubuku River twice. Afterward, have lunch and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park for dinner and an overnight stay at your chosen lodge.

  • Day 8: Morning Game Drive- Afternoon boat cruise, Safari in the park, and drive to Bwindi Forest.

    Today is a great day for your Uganda Safari tour. Start with an early breakfast and head out for a morning game drive in search for several wildlife species such as leopards, Uganda kobs, hippos, elephants, lions, hyenas, bush bucks, water bucks, jackals, and warthogs. After lunch, enjoy an afternoon launch cruise along the Kazinga Channel, connecting Lakes Edward and George. The cruise offers a chance to see hippos, buffalo, kob, and Nile crocodiles, along with fantastic bird watching. Many find this cruise to be the highlight of their safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Return for dinner and stay overnight at your lodge.

  • Day 9: Uganda Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

    After your hearty breakfast, head to Kyambura Valley Gorge, home to the intelligent chimpanzees, where trekkers have the opportunity to get close and personal to the majestic chimpanzees. On seeing these intelligent apes, trekkers will spend an hour with the chimpanzees as they study their behaviours. Then, head to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, passing through the Isasha sector to possibly see tree-climbing lions. Enjoy lunch along the way and have dinner and an overnight stay at your booked lodge.

  • Day 10: Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

    Set off early with guides after breakfast to track the Uganda mountain gorillas. The excitement of seeing them will make the challenging trek worth it. Prepare your essential gear such as hiking shoes, water proof jacket, camera, insect repellent, and many others.  jungle boots and rain jackets, as the park can be wet. Spend time observing the gorillas, especially when adults are eating and grooming, while the young ones play and swing from vines. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a dense rainforest that has survived since the last ice age. It is a World Heritage site and is highly diverse biologically, home to about 459 mountain gorillas, which is half of the world’s population. It also has many chimpanzees, making it unique as the only African forest where both types of apes coexist. Dinner and overnight stay at your booked accommodation.

  • Day 11: Transfer back to Kampala/ Entebbe

    Enjoy breakfast as a routine and embark on a day’s drive back to Kampala.  You will have a stop at Mbarara City for lunch break at Ishanyi Food Centre. After proceed with your journey for another stopover at Kayabwe at the Equator landmark, where you will witness the water experiment, a marginal line that splits the world into two hemispheres.  You will reach Kampala in the evening, and you will get transferred to your booked hotel in Kampala or Entebbe, to mark the end of your 11-Day Rwenzori Hiking and Gorilla Trekking Adventure.
